Prophet and Messenger

Prophets come only to remind us of the existing Words of Allah, swt. Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a Prophet and a Messenger.

A messenger comes with a new revelation from Allah, swt.

Because the Qur'an is the Final Message to be brought to mankind, Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) is the Last and Final Messenger; there will be no new Messengers to come.

The Noble Qur'an 33:40

Muhammad (sallallahu aleihi wa sallam) is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of Allâh and the last (end) of the Prophets. And Allâh is Ever AllAware of everything.

The Noble Qur'an 33:71

He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger (sallallahu aleihi wa sallam) he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the Hell-fire and made to enter Paradise).

Hadith - Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 51, Number 4. Narrated Al-Aswad

In the presence of 'Aisha some people mentioned that the Prophet had appointed 'Ali by will as his successor. 'Aisha said, "When did he appoint him by will? Verily when he died he was resting against my chest (or said: in my lap) and he asked for a wash-basin and then collapsed while in that state, and I could not even perceive that he had died, so when did he appoint him by will?"
