Cemetaries
Most Masajid have a cemetary (usually a group of plots) that they use for
Muslim burials. This list, however, is of centrally shared Muslim cemetaries,
to help out Muslims in emergency situations, insha'Allah.

--- Connecticut ---
Islamic Cemetery of the Islamic Center of Hartford, CT (11/98)

Notes: It has been in existence since 1983. It is owned and maintained by
the Islamic Center of Hartford, CT. Muslims who live in Connecticut or Western
Massachusetts are allowed to be buried in this cemetery.

We, the New Haven CT area (Masjid Al-Islam and others) have an agreement
with a local funeral parlor to serve Muslims. In doing so we have a cost
that is very minimal. I think many could benefit from this information.

The cost of use of funeral parlor (for ghusl etc) , picking up the
body from the hospital or wherever, (they supply the ghusl supplies even
though we always bring our own) and using one funeral car to transport the
body to the grave cost $900.00. Any additional cars needed cost $75.00 a
piece

We don’t use any of their other services so the cost in not high.

If a family is not well connected to the Masjid, unfortunately we
are not notified that the funeral parlor is serving this family and therefor
the cost of the unconnected Muslims family is too often, outrages. It is
to the advantage of the funeral parlor not to notify us because, they don’t
make much money off the aware Muslims.

Also, *When new coffins are sent to the funeral parlor they come in
wooden boxes. The Muslims (Of Masjid Al-Islam) uses the boxes that the coffins
were in for our dead- to transport the body from the funeral parlor to the
gravesite. Al hamdulillah, very useful. Because the funeral parlor would
normally discard the wooden box, we get it for no cost ( as quiet as it is,
we are doing them a favor by discarding it for them) We bury our dead without
coffins in Enfield,CT.

If a sister dies and I am contacted, I usually wash the body with
family members or a team of sisters, according to Qur'an and Sunnah. I also
do washing and shrouding workshops for communities when asked-according to
Qur'an and Sunnah.
