Call to a Special Few...
November 23, 1999
As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi muslimoon.
We are looking for a few dedicated muslims to fill a noble calling. Muttaqun Foundation has an opening for Shurah Board Members. We are looking for one or two muslim couples, strong in the understanding of tawheed, with a minhaj of dawat-us-salafiyyah, to move here to Decatur, Illinois, to give dawah to the people.
The people in Decatur are THIRSTY for the pure dawah, masha'Allah! There are many who are of course, set in their ways, but we refer mostly to the people in this town who have never even seen a veiled muslimah in person before now, have never opened a Quran, have never heard an ayat, have never heard anything about Islam except the "Nation of Islam" version of "HIS-lam" as we often call it. We sometimes have strangers knock on our door, because they've had a bad dream, are upset, confused, etc.... and know that we're muslims by our dress and quiet lifestyle... who come to ask questions about God, Heaven, and Hell. Some accept Islam ultimately, and some do not. Surely, some will choose guidance and some will choose misguidance, Allahu Alim.
While there are so many halal things that we as people could be involved in, this call is to the most basic giving of dawah - to those who haven't even heard the message before - and we call upon a few dedicated Muslims who make Istikaarah and so feel inclined, to join in our local efforts, which of course, carry over into this online forum, Muttaqun OnLine.
To give you an idea of where Decatur, Illinois is: it's 2.5 hours south of Chicago, 2.5 hours east of St. Louis, and.... it's the town that was recently on national U.S. news... the town that Jesse Jackson just visited, protested, and was arrested in, regarding five boys expelled for two years due to a fist fight on school property. Muttaqun Foundation, of course, is not involved in the kaffir politics, but that is a little background on this town. There is no Islamic school here, but homeschooling is easy to do because it does not even require registering your children's name with the state, insha'Allah. The population is approximately 80,000, the cost of housing is low, Alhamdulilah. The nearest halal meat shop is 45 minutes away. And the questions about Islam are just a knock away.
It is permissible to live in a non-muslim land, for a time, to give dawah. We live day to day, insha'Allah, never knowing what tomorrow will bring; this is a very exciting, challenging adventure, to say the least. If you are interested, email us and/or call (217) 422-5044 or (413) 487-3816 for more information.
For the sake of Allah, subhana wa ta'ala, alone, insha'Allah... As salaamu alaikum.
Your brother in Islam,
Imam Abdul-Maalik Luqmaan
