I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying:
Do not kill your children secretly, for the milk, with which
a child is suckled while his mother is pregnant, overtakes
the horseman and throws him from his horse.

Fear of Poverty

It is not better to take a child's life because you fear they will have a life of poverty.

The Noble Qur'an Al-Israa 17:31

And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin.

The Noble Qur'an Al-An'aam 6:151

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty - We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near to Al-Fawâhish (shameful sins, illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allâh has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islâmic law). This He has commanded you that you may understand.

also Due for Deceased Fetus

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari 8.732, Narrated Abu Huraira, r.a.

Allah's Apostle gave the judgment that a male or female slave should be given in Qisas for an abortion case of a woman from the tribe of Bani Lihyan (as blood money for the fetus) but the lady on whom the penalty had been imposed died, so the Prophets ordered that her property be inherited by her offspring and her husband and that the penalty be paid by her Asaba.

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari 9.420, Narrated Al Mughira bin Shuba, r.a.

'Umar bin Al-Khattab asked (the people) about the Imlas of a woman, i.e., a woman who has an abortion because of having been beaten on her abdomen, saying, "Who among you has heard anything about it from the Prophet?" I said, "I did.) He said, "What is that?" I said, "I heard the Prophet saying, 'Its Diya (blood money) is either a male or a female slave.' " 'Umar said, "Do not leave till you present witness in support of your statement." So I went out, and found Muhammad bin Maslama. I brought him, and he bore witness with me that he had heard the Prophet saying, "Its Diya (blood money) is either a male slave or a female slave."

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari 9.44, Narrated Abu Huraira, r.a.

Allah's Apostle gave a verdict regarding an aborted fetus of a woman from Bani Lihyan that the killer (of the fetus) should give a male or female slave (as a Diya) but the woman who was required to give the slave, died, so Allah's Apostle gave the verdict that her inheritance be given to her children and her husband and the Diya be paid by her 'Asaba.

Hadith - Abu Dawood 4555, Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab, r.a.

Ibn Abbas said: Umar asked about the decision of the Prophet (peace be upon him) about that (i.e. abortion) Haml ibn Malik ibn an-Nabighah got up and said: I was between two women. One of them struck another with a rolling-pin killing both her and what was in her womb. So the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) gave judgment that the blood-wit for the unborn child should be a male or a female slave of the best quality and that she should be killed.

Hadith - Al-Muwatta 43.5

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Abu Salama ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf from Abu Hurayra that a woman from the Hudhayl tribe threw a stone at a woman from the same tribe, and she had a miscarriage. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, gave a judgement that a slave or slave-girl of fair complexion and excellence should be given to her.

Action Items for the uttaqun:

• Abortion means "expulsion of a human fetus before it has reached proper gestation needed for survival." An abortion can occur on its own, and this is known as a miscarriage. An abortion that is deliberate or due to harm inflicted on the woman's womb, is prohibited in Islam.

• An unborn fetus is as valuable as a child. Proof is in the fact that blood money is to be paid in the event of the death of either.
