QUESTION:
can a female past the age of 40, and still is a virgin marry without the consent of her father, when her father will only consent to her marrying one of her cousins?
I know of a situation where a female refused all her life to marry one of her cousins, and whenever she went to her father with someone she did want to marry the father refused to let her marry. Now she is her mid 40's, still a virgin, and wants to marry another man who is not her cousin. But she believes her father will refuse to give his consent for the marriage. What can she do to meet and marry this man, if possible?

contact me at: [email protected] with any information regarding this subject. Insha Allah.

There is a saying of the Prophet (s.a.w.) that marriage of a girl is with the consent of her parents. He also added that only an adulteress (Allah forbid such a situation on the Ummah) arranges her own marriage.

If the parents are not willing to budge from their decision, some one (an elder) from the familyshould speak to the father on this issue.

However, if the father is adamant, the general consensus of the Ulema is that the girl could be married with the her brother or uncle giving away the bride (wali).
