khutbatul awwal
The First Khutbah

Innal Hamdu lilaah, Nahmaduhu wa Nasta'eenuhu wa Nastaghfiruhu, Wa
Na'udhu Billahi Min Shuroori Anfuseena wa Min Sayyi'ati Amaleena,
Man Yahdihillah Falaa Mudhililah wa Man Yudhilil Falaa Hadiya Ilaah Wa
Ash'Hadu An Laa Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu Laa Shareeka Lahu wa
Ash'Hadu Anna Muhammadar-Rasoolulah

Indeed all praise is due to Allah, we praise Him we seek His Help and we
ask for His forgiveness and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of
ourselves and from our bad deeds, whoemever Allah guides there is none
to lead them astray and whoever is misguided them there is no guide
for them, I publicly bear witness that there is no deity possessing the
sole right to be worshipped other than Allah, He is alone and without
partners and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and
Messenger.

Amma baudu"
As to what follows:

Fa Inna Asdaqal Hadeeth Kitabullah, Wa Khayral Hudaa, Hudaa
Muhammadan [sallalahu alayhi wa salam] wa Sharral Umoori
Muh'da'thaa'tuhaa wa Kulla Muh'da'thatin Bid'atin wa Kulla Bid'atin
Dhawlaalah wa Kullah Dhawlaalatin Fin-Naar"

Most certaintly the most truthful speech is the book of Allah and the
finest guideance is the guidance of Muhammad [sallalahu alayhi wa
salam] and the worst of affairs are newly invented matters in religion for
every newly invented matter in this deen is a cursed innovation and
every innovation leads astray and every astray is in the fire.

Yaqooluu Tabaraka wa Ta'aala : "Innaka Mayyitun wa Innahum
Mayyitoon" [Zumar:30]

Indeed you will die [Yaa Muhammad] and indeed they will also die!"

Yaqoolu Allahu Subhanahu wa Ta'aala "Kullu Nafsin Dhaa'ikatul Mawt
Thumma Ilaynaa Turja'oon" [Ankaboot:57]

Allah says: "Every soul shall taste death and then unto Us is your final
return."

Wa Kadhalika Aydhawn Yaqool: Kullu Nafsin Dhaa'ikatul Mawt, wa
Innamaa Tuwaafawnaa Ujoorakum Yaumal Qiyamah, Faman Zuhzihaa
Anin-Naar wa Udkhilaal Jannata Faqad Faaz wa Maal Hayyata Dunyaaa
Illa Mata'ool Ghuroor" [3:185]

Likewise Allah also says, "Every soul shall taste death and only then shall
you reap your rewards in full on the Day of Ressurrection and who
ever is free from the fire and entered into pardise is indeed successful,
indeed the life of this world is but an enjoyment of deception." [3:185]

Yaqooluu Allahu Taaala: "Yaa Ayyuhan Naasu Inna Wada Allahi Haqqun,
falaa Taghur-rannakumul-hayyat-tudunyaa, wa laa
taghur-rannakum billahil ghuroor"

Oh Humanity verily the promise of your Lord is true, so let not the life of
this world decieve you and do not let the chief deceiver deceive you
about Allah." [35:5]

Yaa Ibaadallah! Walamoo Anna Allaha Yaqool: "Wa Maa Tadree Nafsum
Madhaa Taksibu Ghadan, wa Maa Tadree Nafsum Bi Ayyi Ardin
Tamoot."

Oh you who worship Allah know with certainty that Allah says: And no
soul knows what it will earn for tomorrow and no soul knows in which
land he will die."

Allah Tabaraka wa Ta'aala Yaqool: "Aynamaa Takoonoo Yudreekumul
Mawt wa Low Kuntum Fee Buroojin Mashayyadah"[4:78]

"Wherever you maybe, death will overtake you even if you are in
fortresses built up strong and high."

Ibadallah know with certainty that death is coming for each and every
one of us. We cannot escape it. Death will eventually overtake all of us
one day. Know that death is a bitter reality that we all have to face. A
harsh reality that strikes at the very heart of everyones happiness. Allah
Tabarak wa Ta'aala inform us in His book about the ephemeral nature of
this dunyaa [world] and warns us about trying to escape the inevitable
[Ya'nee Al-Mawt].

Yaqoolu Allahu Subhanahu wa Ta'aala: Qul innal Mawta Alladhe Tafirrunna
Minhu, Fa innahu Mulaaqeekum, Thumma Turaddoona Ilaa Alimil
Ghaybi wa Shahaadah, Fanyunabi'ikum Bi-Maa Kuntum
Ta'maloon."[Munaafiqoon 8]

Allah says, "Say that indeed the death from which you flee from shall
surely overtake you and then you shall return to the Knower of the
Unseen and the Seen and He shall inform you of what you used to do."

Ibaadallah know that death was created as a test for us, Yaqoolu Allahu
Azza wa Jaal:

Alladhe Khalaqal Mawta wal Hayyaat Liyabloowakum Ayyukum Ahsanu
Amalan wa Huwal Azeezul Ghafoor" [62:3]

He it is who has created DEATH and life to see which of you are best in
deed and He is the Mighty and Forgiving."

Ibaadallah do not be heedless of this affair! Al-Mawt! Allah Tabaraka Wa
Ta'aala says,"Laqad Kunta Fee Ghaflatin Min Hadha Fakashafnaa
Anka Ghitaa'aka Fabasarukal Yauma Hadeed."

Indeed you were heedless from this, so We removed from you your veil,
so how clear is your sight this day.

"Wa Jaa a Sakratil Mawti Bil-Haqq, Dhalika Maa Kunta Minhu Taheed."

"And when the stupors of death come in truth indeed this is what you
have been trying earnestly to avoid." [50:18]

Yaa Ibaadallah send forth for tommorrow as much good as you possibly
can, Yaqoolu Allahu Jalla wa Aalaa, "Yaa Ayyuhal alladhena Amanoo
Itt-taqullaaha wa Tandhur Nafsoon Maa Qaddamat Lighad wa Taqullah
Inna Allaha Khabeerum Bimaa Tamaloon"[hashr]

Oh you who believe fear Allah and look to what you have sent forth for
tomorrow and fear Allah, Indeed Allah is All Aware of what you do."

Ibaadallah! Look to what you have sent forth for tommorrow, work on
doing good deeds so that you may have the provisions for Paradise.
Indeed Abul Qaasim Al-Mustafah Muhammad Ibn Abdullah As-Saadiqul
Masduq qaal:

Maa Minkum Min Ahadin Illa Sayukalimuhu Rabbahu Laysa Baynahu wa
Baynahu Turjumaan, Fayandhuru ilaa Aymana Minhu Falaa Yaraa
illa Maa Qaddama wa Yandhuru Ilaa Ash'ama Minhu Falaa Yaraa Ilaa Maa
Qadama, wa Yandhuru Bayna Yadayhi Falaa Yaraa ilaan Naar! Tilqaa
Wajhihi, Fattaqoo Naar Wa Low Bi-Shiqqatin Tamratin."

Indeed Abul Qaasim Al-Mustafah Muhammad Ibn Abdullah The most
Truthful of the Truthful said, "There is not one from amongst you
except that he shall speak to his Lord and there shall not be anyone
between them as an interpreter or translater, he shall look to his right
and
all he shall see is what he sent forth and he shall look to his left and all
he shall see is what he sent forth and he shall look infront of him and all
he shall see is the FIRE in front of his face so fear the FIRE even with
half of a date." [Bukhaaree]

Ibaadallah remember death often because it has a tremendous effect on
our actions. Indeed Muhammad Ibn Abdullah [sallalahu alayhi wa
salam] said, "Akthiroo Dhikraa Hadhimil-Ladhaat" [Bukhaaree]

Remember the Destroyer of all Happiness...Death!"

Remember death Ibaadallah for no one knows when Allah will take his
soul, make use of your time now for worship of Allah as Muhammad
[sallalahu alayhi wa salam] taught us in the authentic hadeeth collected
by Bukhaaree on the authority of Ibn Umar where he said [radhia
Allahu Anhumaa] "Akhadha Rasoolulahi [sallalahu alayhi wa salam]
bi-Mankibi, Faqaala Rasoolulahi [sallalahu alayhi wa salam] "Kun
Fid-dunyaa Ka'annaka Ghareeb Aw Aabirus-Sabeel"

Be in this Dunya [world] as if you are a Stranger or a traveller along the
way."

Wa Kana Ibnu Umar Yaqool: Idha Amsayta Falaa Tantadhiru Sabaah wa
Idha Asbahta Falaa Tantadhiru Masaa'a Wa Khudh Min Sihhaatika
Lee Maradhika wa Hayyatika Lee Mawtika."

Ibnu Umar used to say, " If you reach the evening time do not expect to
reach the morning and if you reach the morning do not expect to reach
the evening but take from your good health [to do good deeds in
abundance] from your sickness and take from your Life [to do good
deeds in
abundance] from your death.

Wa an Anas Ibn Maalik [radhia Allahu anhu] Khataba Rasoolulahi [sallalahu
alayhi wa salam] khutbatan maa sami'tu mithlaha qatt, faqala
rasoolulaahi [sallalahu alayhi wa salam] "lau ta'lamoona maa a'lamu
ladhahiktum qaleel wa labakaytum katheer" [mutafaqon alayh]

On the authority of Anas Ibn Maalik [radhia Allahu anhu]: qaal: The
Messenger of Allah [sallalahu alayhi wa salam] addressed us in a
khutbah, and I have never the heard the likes of which ever! The
Messenger of Allah [sallalahu alayhi wa salam] said, "If you knew what I
knew
you would laugh little and cry much."

Wa fee rewhyatin ukhra: An Anasin [ra] An Rasoolilah [sas] Annahu Qaal:
"Walladhe Nafsee Bi-Yadihi Lau Raaytum Maa Raaytu
Ladhahiktum Qaleelan Wa Labakaytum Katheeran" Qaaloo: Wa Maa
Raayta Yaa Rasoolulah? Qaala: Raaytu Jannah wan-Naar" [ruwahu
Muslim]

And in another narration: On the authority of Anas that the Prophet
[sas] said, " By Him in whose hand is my soul, if you seen what I saw you
would laugh little and cry much. It was said, "What did you see Oh
Messenger of Allah? I saw Jannah and Naar."

Wa Qaal Haani Mawlaa Uthmaan Ibn Afaan, Kaana Uthmaan [radhia Allahu
anhu] Idha Waqifu Alaa Qabiri Bukaa, Hattaa Yablaa Lihyatahu,
Faqeela Lahu: Tadhakaral Jannah wa Naar Falaa Tubkee, wa Tadhakara
Al-Qabr Fatubkee? Faqaala: In-nee Sami'tu Rasoolulahi [sallalahu alayhi
wa salam] Yaqool: Al-Qabr Awwala Manaazil Aakherah, Fa Inna Najaa
Minhu Famaa Baidahu Aysara Minhu, Wa in Lam Yanjaha Minhu Famaa
Baudahu Ashaddu Minhu, Qaala: wa Sami'tu Rasoolulahi [sallalahu alayhi
wa salam] Yaqool: "Maa Ra'aytu Mandhura Qatt Illal Qabr Afdha'a
Minhu." [tirmidhee]

And Haani the freed slave of Uthmaan Ibn Afaan said that Uthmaan
[radhia Allahu anhu] used to stand at the graves and cry so much so
that
his beard would be drenched with tears. so it was said to him, You
mention the Paradise and the Fire and yet you don't cry and you mention
the
grave and you cry? So Uthmaan [radhia Allahu anhu] said, 'Indeed I
heard the Prophet Muhammad [sallalahu alayhi wa salam] saying,'The
grave is the first abode of the life to come, for indeed if one is successful
there what comes after it is easier than what preceeded it and if one is
not successful there then what comes after it is more severe than what
came before it. Indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah [sallalahu alayhi
wa salam] saying, 'I have never seen a place more hideous and
abominable than it ." [collected by tirmidhee]

khutbatul thaanee
The Second Khutbah

Ibaadallah do not be like those who ask to come back after death has
overtaken them to do good deeds for Allah says:

"Wa qaala Allahu Taaala: "Yaa Ayyuhal alladhena Amanoo Laa Tulhikum
Amwaalukum wa Laa Awlaadukum An Dhikrillah, Wa Mane Yafal
Dhalika Faulaaika Humul Khaasiroon. Wa Anfiqoo mimmaa Razaqnaakum
Min Qable Ane Yatiyya Ahadakumul Mawt, Fayaqoola Rabbi Lau
Laaaa Akhkhartaneeee Ilaaa Ajaliin Qareebin FaAssaadaqa wa Akun
Minas-Saaliheen, Wa Lane Yuakhkhira Allahu Nafsan Idha Jaaaa
Ajaluhaa, Wallahu Khabirum Bimaa Tamaloon" [Munaafiqoon]

Oh You Who Believe! Let not your wealth or your children divert you from
the rememberance of Allah. And whoever does that, then they are
the losers. And spend out of what we have provided before death comes
to one of you, and he says, My Lord if only you would give me
respite for a little while [ i.e. return back to the worldly life] then I should
give sadaqah of my wealth and be among the righteous. And Allah
grants respite to none when his appointed time [death] comes and Allah
is All-Aware of what you do." [63:9-11]

Likewise Allah says:

"Wa Qaala Allahu Taaala: "Hattaaa Idha Jaaaa Ahadahumul Mawtu Qaala
Rabbir-r jioon, Laaalee Aamalo Saalihan Feemaa Tarakt, Kallaaa
Innahaa Kalimaton Huwa Qaailuhaam Wa Minnwaraaaihim Barzakhun Ilaa
Yaumi Yubaathoon.

And Allah says, "Until when death comes to one of them, he says, My
Lord! Send me back, so that I may do good deeds in that which I left
behind! No!!! it is but a word that he speaks; and behind them is Barzakh
[a barrier] until the Day when they will be ressurected."

Wa Qaala Allahu Taaala: " Wa Jeeeea Yaumaidhin Bi Jahanam,
Yaumaidhin Yatadhakkarul Insaanu Wa Annaa lahu Dhikraa , Yaqooloo
Yalaytanne Qaddamtu Lee-Hayyatee"

And Allah says: And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day man
will remember, but how will that rememberance benefit him" He will
say, Alas! Would that I had sent forth [good deeds] for this my life."
[89:23-34]

Ibadallah do good deeds now! Stop sinning before Allah takes your soul.
Indeed we have an opportunity to do good deeds while we are alive
so do them before we are no longer able to to do them. Indeed Alee Ibn
Abi Taalib summed up this affair [death] best when he said, "Wa qaala
Alee Ibnu Abi Taalib: " Irtahlatid-dunyaa mudbiratin wa irtahlatil
akheeratu muqbillatan, wa likulli waahidatin minhummaa banoon, fakuunuu
min abnaaa'il akheera wa laa takunuu min abnaa'id-dunyaa, fa innal yaum
amal wa laa hisaab wa ghaddan hisaabun wa laa amal." [ruwaahu
bukhaaree kitabul riqaaq]

Alee Ibn Abi Taalib used to say, "Indeed the dunya is going backwards
[retreating] and the Akheerah is swiftly approaching and both of them
have children, so be oh Muslims children of the life to come and do not
be children of this dunya, for verily today there is actions without
account but tomorrow there is account without actions."

Wa Subhanak Allahumma wa Bihamdik, Ash'hadu An Laa Ilaaha illa Anta
Astaghfiruka wa Atooboo Ilayk

And Glory be to Allah and the praise, I bear witness that there is nothing
worthy of worship except for You I seek your forgiveness and I turn
to You in repentance.

Aqim:
Establish the Salah

As-salaamu alaykum warahmatullah

Would someone kindly post a reference for the khutbah above insha Allah?

i.e. a URL, or at least info about who gave the khutbah, and where, when etc.

Jazakumllah khayran.

And please, may I remind my noble brothers and sisters to include such information with their postings? We need the route of transmission of knowledge to be apparent, for reasons I am sure you can appreciate.

Barakallah feekum.
