Wa alaikum assalaam warahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Sexual intercourse is a means of enjoyment for both husband and wife and is permissible between them in any manner that they choose, so long as it is not in the anus and the woman is clean from her menses. Here are 2 hadeeth (saying of the Prophet, sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and ayaah from the Quran:

"He is cursed who has anal intercourse (with his wife)." (Reported by Ibin Maja)

'Aisha said: During the menses, he used to order me to put on an Izar (dress worn below the waist) and used to fondle me. Recorded by Bukhari

Surah al Baqarah (2:222-223): They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an Adha (a harmful thing for a husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses), therefore keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till they have purified (from menses and have taken a bath). And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah has ordained for you (go in unto them in any manner as long as it is in their vagina). Truly, Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves (by taking a bath and cleaning and washing thoroughly their private parts, bodies, for their prayers, etc.). 223: Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth (have sexual relations with your wives in any manner as long as it is in the vagina and not in the anus), when or how you will, and send (good deeds, or ask Allah to bestow upon you pious offspring) before you for your ownselves. And fear Allah, and know that you are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give good tidings to the believers."

If you have any other questions, please ask.

The idea of not having sex with women during their menses is tribal in origin and predates Islam, therefore I pay no attention to that. Islam has incorporated many tribal beliefs which are always targetted towards women and rarely towards men.

......just my two cents..... :)
