Asalaamu alaikum. I am looking at the possibility of homeschooling my 3 1/2 year old son when I marry, insha Allah. I have access to a lot of information on curriculum etc., and actually I do homeschool him on the weekends anyway. What I am unable to find information on is the legal issues involved with homeschooling. I have heard often that you must be a certified teacher to legally homeschool your children. I have also heard that they must take many tests to prove that you are teaching up to the academic standards of your state. I realize some of the laws probably vary from state to state, but would appreciate any information I can get, insha Allah. I like to think that homeschooling should fall under religious freedom, but I hear that is not the case. If any sister homeschools and has had to deal with any legal issues regarding it, I would like to know what I am getting myself into, insha Allah. Please share your experiences.

Asalaamu alaikum.
